Kevin Herglotz

Kevin Herglotz is executive vice president of Institutional Advancement, overseeing the business and program development, global events and programming, marketing and communications, and government affairs teams at the Milken Institute. His career spans over 30 years of leadership experience in the business, government, and nonprofit sectors. Herglotz joins the Institute from HPA Strategies, a public affairs and strategic communications consulting firm focused on driving high-impact health, economic, and social engagement programs, and major events for clients. As CEO, he led the firm’s work in affordable housing, access to care, childhood obesity, and veteran’s issues.

Previously, Herglotz served as chief operating officer at the National AIDS Memorial, where he spearheaded revenue growth and national partnerships. This included securing funding for the AIDS Memorial Quilt to address rising HIV rates in the southern United States. As a senior vice president at Safeway, Inc., he directed policy initiatives that resulted in significant cost savings and launched a series of strategies that positioned the company as a health and wellness thought leader. This included forming business-led health coalitions and developing charitable giving programs focused on improving health outcomes.

Herglotz was deputy chief of staff and director of communications at the US Department of Agriculture, serving as a national spokesperson and managing critical consumer and industry issues related to food safety, nutrition, trade promotion, and conservation programs. He was an assistant secretary at the California Department of Food & Agriculture and also served as a communications advisor to the governor of California.  A graduate of the University of Delaware, he served 10 years in the US Air Force and Air National Guard. Throughout his career, Herglotz has advised and served on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations and business associations.
