Milken Institute Appoints Curtis Chin to Chair of the Asia Center

SINGAPORE, September 21, 2022 — In the lead up to the 9th annual Asia Summit, the Milken Institute (MI) announced today the appointment of Curtis S. Chin to Chair of the Asia Center.

Chin joined the Milken Institute in 2014 as the inaugural Asia Fellow, after having served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Asian Development Bank under U.S. Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. In his new role as Chair of the Asia Center, Chin will split his time in the region and continue to work closely with colleagues to leverage his knowledge of established and emerging markets as MI convenes critical discussions on the importance and evolution of the Asia-Pacific market.

“Ambassador Chin’s new role of Chair of the Asia Center brings added visibility to the work we do in a region of the world that will only grow in importance,” said Rich Ditizio, president of the Milken Institute. “His voice will be critical to supporting our continued presence in Asia.” Laura Deal Lacey added, “Having run the Asia Center for the past 9 years, I am looking forward to continuing my partnership with Curtis in his new capacity.”

Chin joins a list of distinguished Asia Center Chairs including the inaugural Chair, Chan Heng Wing, who is currently Singapore's non-resident ambassador to the Republic of Austria and its most recent Chair, Timothy D. Dattels, the former Chairman of TPG Asia. Other Milken Institute Asia Fellows have included former Philippine Secretary of Finance Cesar Purisima, former Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Dino Patti Djalal and former UBS AG Vice Chair of Global Wealth Management (Asia Pacific) Tracey Woon.

“Since joining the Milken Institute nearly a decade ago as its first Asia Fellow, I have been continually impressed with the impact the Institute has had in Asia and around the world through its powerful convenings and engagement with the public, private and not-for-profit sectors,” said Chin. “As Chair of the Milken Institute Asia Center, I look forward to continuing to support the Institute’s mission of catalyzing solutions and helping build meaningful lives, through advances in finance, health and philanthropy.”
