Roberto Velasco Alvarez

Roberto Velasco Álvarez holds a Master's degree in Public Policy with a concentration in Finance from the Harris School for Public Policy at the University of Chicago. In 2013, he graduated with a law degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. While in Chicago, he was Editor-in-Chief of Chicago Policy Review, a journal published by the Harris School at the University of Chicago. He served as a fellow in the office of Rahm Emanuel, then Mayor of Chicago and former Chief of Staff to President Barack Obama. Velasco Álvarez has extensive experience in the Mexican federal, state, and local public sectors. He is currently Chief Officer for North America at the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he oversees the foreign policy with the United States and Canada, as well as the Mexican section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC). Previously, he served as the General Director for Public Affairs, where he coordinated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ communication with national and international press.
