John applies analytics to identify social change and help leaders and organizations anticipate new trends and demands as CEO of The Harris Poll. A New York Times best-selling author, pollster, and social scientist, he's given TED talks and plenaries at The World Economic Forum, The Milken Institute Global Conference, and speeches worldwide. In bringing society into the c-suite, his research models include The Milken Institute "Listening Project," U.S. News & World Report's "Best Countries" with The Wharton School of Business, and Unilever's Gender Equity in the Workplace. He's written for HBR and McKinsey Quarterly and his essay, 'The Trouble with Brands,' was named among the 'Top Management Articles of the Decade' by Strategy & Business. Among several best-selling books, Spend Shift: How the Post-Crisis Values Revolution Will Change the Way We Buy, Sell, and Live (2010) predicted the rise of ESG-driven businesses. And The Athena Doctrine: How Women (And the Men Who Think Like Them) Will Rule the Future (2013) with Pulitzer Prize winner Michael D'Antonio correlated empathic leadership skills with successful business and economic outcomes.
