Storytelling for Change: Creating Hope out of Crisis

Monday, May 6, 2024
01:00 PM - 02:00 PM PDT

Visual storytelling is one of the most powerful media for bearing witness, documenting history, and inciting change. From the early 20th century, technology and public interest have driven talented photographers and documentarians—think of Robert Capa, Margaret Bourke-White, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Dorothea Lange—to document momentous times such as the Great Depression, the World Wars, and other historic phenomena. Photography helps connect the personal with the global, the profane with the sacred, the joyful with the painful. Moving images transport us: first entering our homes as tv news bulletins, then via 24/7 cable news, and now with our devices on a constant loop. Photojournalism creates opportunities to sharpen awareness, protect communities, preserve habitat and conserve resources, and document vital cultures. Join our conversation with acclaimed visual storytellers who will share iconic photographic images with an eye toward hope and healing.
