Co-Founder and CEO, Kuronga; Milken-Motsepe Prize Winner
Tendai Chitapi

Tendai grew up in Zimbabwe in a family of modest means; profoundly curious from a young age, and naturally gifted in academics and the arts. Growing up surrounded by Zimbabwe’s rich agricultural history, Tendai was always observing small and large farmers and their markets. Today, Tendai is an Agricultural Innovator, passionate about using the power of A.I, digital platforms, and collaborative farming models to improve the livelihoods of small farmers in Africa. Following a 17-year career in accounting and finance in Asia and Africa, Tendai decided, in 2020, to pursue his passion to uplift and empower small farmers in Africa, and with his partner Oliver, co-founded Kuronga. Kuronga is a multi-award-winning agritech startup that is using A.I. to validate crop quality and optimise market access for small farmers in Africa, increasing their incomes and reducing food waste. His journey in building Kuronga inspired him to become a farmer himself, and in 2022, he and his wife bought a farm south of Johannesburg. He now uses this farming experience to drive his commitment to innovation in agriculture. He offers training on quality in farming, empowering small farmers to be quality-conscious in how they grow their food. Passionate about performing arts, travel, and tennis, Tendai prioritises family and living presently. He holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science (BCompt) from the University of South Africa and an MBA from Hult International Business School. He is fluent in English, French, Shona and Zulu, and has professional ability in Portuguese and basic Mandarin.
