Michele Kang

Founder and CEO, Cognosante; Majority Owner, Washington Spirit
Michele Kang

A health information technology visionary, Michele Kang founded Cognosante in 2008 to challenge the status quo in the U.S. healthcare system. Cognosante has emerged as a trusted provider of innovative health and safety solutions for Federal health, military, and intelligence agencies as well as state health and social services agencies. Michele also established Cognosante Ventures to fuel promising health IT startups. Through investment and mentorship, Cognosante Ventures supports technology development that will change the way citizens experience public services and programs. Michele’s commitment to equity, inclusion and opportunity is reflected in the initiatives she develops. She promotes economic sustainability through entrepreneurship and focuses on increasing opportunities for Veterans, persons with disabilities, and young adults. In 2021, Michele launched two higher-education programs, Cognosante’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Women in STEM alliances. Both programs prepare students for promising IT and government contracting careers. Recently, Michele trailblazed women’s ownership of major sports franchises by becoming the first female co-owner – and later the first female majority owner – of a National Women’s Soccer League club, the Washington Spirit. Michele earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from The University of Chicago and a master’s degree in public and private management from Yale School of Management.
