Eric Gertler

Eric Gertler is Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of U.S. News & World Report. He has overall responsibility for editorial and business operations. Previously, Gertler served as Commissioner/President & CEO-designate of Empire State Development (ESD), New York State’s principal economic development agency, prior to and during the Covid-19 pandemic. Gertler also was Executive Vice President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and Managing Director of the Center for Economic Transformation under multiple mayoral administrations. He serves as Trustee to the Zuckerman Family Foundation. He also serves on the boards of the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School, Technion-Israel Institute, Tel Aviv University, Hebrew University, and the Weizmann Institute. He is a Trustee of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, a Member of Young Presidents’ Organization, and a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He authored the critically acclaimed book Prying Eyes: Protect Your Privacy From People Who Sell To You, Snoop On You Or Steal From You (Random House).Gertler is the recipient of the 5Boro Institute Leadership Award, the Center for an Urban Future’s Spirit of New York Award, and recognized as one of Carnegie Corporation of New York’s Great Immigrants. City and State Magazine named him to the 2021 Albany Power List and the 2021 Real Estate Power 100. Gertler received his A.B. from Brown University and his J.D. from American University, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of The Law Review. He has an honorary doctorate from Tel Aviv University.
