Sokol Shtylla is a director at the Milken Institute Center for Strategic Philanthropy where he partners with individual philanthropists, families, and foundations to develop and implement effective philanthropic strategies and conduct due diligence of philanthropic investments. He also leads the center’s work to design a community of strategic philanthropists to foster collective learning and partnership to increase the impact of their individual philanthropic efforts.

Before joining the Institute, Sokol was the Chief Operating Officer of Swanee Hunt Alternatives, a two-generation family operating foundation which has dedicated more than $130 million to advance social change nationally and globally.

Prior to his work in philanthropy, Sokol was a management consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton advising government and non-profit clients on strategy and performance management, organizational assessments and design, customer service, and change management. He also conducted research and analysis for the Albright Stonebridge Group (formerly The Albright Group) and Wise Solutions LLC, two consulting and advisory firms focusing on business growth in emerging markets and corporate social responsibility.

Born and raised in Albania, Sokol received his bachelor’s degree in political science and international relations with high honors from Marlboro College in Vermont. He is also a graduate of Georgetown University’s Master of Science in Foreign Service program.
