John Chiang is Californias 33rd State Treasurer. As the states banker, he oversees trillions of dollars in annual transactions, manages a $75 billion investment portfolio, and is the nations largest issuer of municipal bonds. His work on bond refunding helped the state achieve significant savings on interest costs. Using his power of the states purse strings, Chiang has championed assisting small businesses through the myriad programs his office manages, cut off Wells Fargos business with the State for defrauding its customers, and supported and voted in favor of CalSTRS plan to end investments in companies selling banned military-style assault weapons. Chiang developed an innovative financial blueprint for the state detailed in his Building Californias Future Begins Today. He is leading efforts to study the creation of a state financial institution to serve Californias underserved cannabis industry and is an ardent supporter of boosting green bond issuance in California as well as across the country. Chiang received his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center. He graduated with honors from the University of South Florida with a degree in finance.
