Magnus Carlsen

World Chess Champion

Magnus Carlsen is the world chess champion. He became an International Grandmaster at the age of 13, the youngest at the time and the third-youngest in history. At 19, Magnus became the youngest chess player to be ranked World Number One and has retained that status since then as well as held the highest chess rating in history. In November 2013, 22-year-old Magnus became the World Chess Champion. He has won both World Rapid Championships and the World Blitz Championships, becoming the first player in history to simultaneously hold all three World Championship titles. In addition to his achievements as chess player, Magnus is an active philanthropist and popular as both a model and spokesperson. In 2013, Time 100 put him on its list of the most influential people in the world. Recently, Magnus played himself in a guest appearance in "The Simpsons" television show. Through his company, Play Magnus, he has also launched chess training and playing apps, hoping to use the game as a tool to make the world a smarter place.
