The Center for Regional Economics promotes prosperity and sustainable growth by increasing understanding of the dynamics that drive job creation and promote industry expansion. Our research, programming, and convening develop and disseminate innovative, actionable economic and policy solutions that provide changemakers with the tools to create jobs and improve access to capital.

Identify key gaps and subsequent opportunities in transportation, energy, housing, and water infrastructures to ensure long-term economic and social prosperity.

Human Capital

Improve policies that facilitate the development of an educated workforce and increase the alignment between the skills developed in post-secondary education and training and the needs of employers.

Regional Competitiveness

Assess and analyze the factors and policies that drive and sustain regional job creation and communicate these to policymakers and key stakeholders.


Identify solutions to sustain California as a global incubator for innovation in policy, technology, and business.

Small Business, Capital Access, and Trade

Advocate for federal policies that increase access to capital for small businesses and design initiatives that strengthen global trade.

Opportunity Zones

Explore the challenges and opportunities regarding the implementation of opportunity zones and qualified opportunity funds with a focus on best practices to maximize potential impact.
