Shaping Opportunity Zone Funds in California: Oakland as a Case Study

February 28, 2019

9:00am - 1:00pm

Oakland Marriott City Center, 1001 Broadway, Oakland CA, 94607

The workshop, held in partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation and the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, will focus on the evolving landscape of the Opportunity Zone legislation and how best to maximize community benefits throughout California. Using Oakland as a case study, workshop participants will create a checklist cities can use to prepare communities to absorb new funding. We will bring together a select group of asset managers, developers, policymakers, and community partners to explore the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead, including how to promote a robust project pipeline, utilize capital sources, and overcome regulatory barriers. Participants will also discuss how to streamline stakeholder coordination, generate deal flow, and build the capacity of cities to absorb investments.
