Peter Chiarelli
CEO, One Mind for Research; General (Ret.) and former Vice Chief of Staff, U.S. Army
Peter Chiarelli is CEO of One Mind for Research and a retired U.S. Army general. Prior to joining One Mind for Research, he was the Army's vice chief of staff (2008-2012). Chiarelli also served as the senior military assistant to the secretary of defense (2007-2008). In 2006, Chiarelli was the senior tactical commander of 147,000 U.S. and coalition troops in Iraq. He was responsible for training and integrating Iraqi Security Forces into the coalition, and served as the principal advisor to the Iraqi minister of defense and chief of the Iraqi armed forces. From 2003 to 2005, he was the commanding general for the 1st Cavalry Division, which was deployed to Baghdad. He was the multi-national division commander of Baghdad, exercising command and control of combat operations for over 68,000 U.S. and coalition troops. He also served as mayor. The author or co-author of several books, Chiarelli holds a B.S. in political science from Seattle University, where he was a distinguished military graduate; an M.P.A. from the University of Washington; and M.A. in national security and strategy from Salve Regina University.
