Dennis Cardoza has represented California's Central Valley (Stockton, Modesto and Merced) in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2003. Now in his fifth term in Congress, Cardoza is a leader in the moderate Blue Dog coalition of Democrats. A former small-business owner, he has secured hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding to create jobs and grow the economy in the Central Valley. He serves on the Agriculture Committee, where he is the lead Democrat on the Livestock, Dairy and Nutrition Subcommittee. From 2007 to 2010, Cardoza chaired the Subcommittee on Horticulture and Organic Agriculture, where he was a leader in crafting the 2008 Farm Bill and worked to secure over $2 billion for specialty crops. He also serves on the Foreign Affairs Committee and is a whip in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. A member of the House Democratic leadership team for the four years that the party held the majority, Cardoza served as a senior whip and a member of the Rules Committee.
