Mark McClellan
Director, Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform, Brookings Institution
Mark McClellan is director of the Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform at the Brookings Institution as well as a senior fellow in economic studies and the Leonard D. Schaeffer Chair in Health Policy Studies. A medical doctor and economist, McClellan works on promoting high-quality, innovative and affordable health care. He is a former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration and former administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. He also served as a member of the President's Council of Economic Adivsers and senior director for health-care policy at the White House., where he developed and implemented major reforms in health policy, including the Medicare prescription drug benefit. He holds an M.D. from the Harvard University-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Division of Health Sciences and Technology, a Ph.D. in economics from MIT, an M.P.A. from Harvard and a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.
