Charles Evans
President and CEO, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago
Charles Evans is the president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and serves on the Federal Open Market Committee, the Federal Reserve System's monetary policy-making body. Evans oversees roughly 1,400 employees who conduct economic research, supervise financial institutions and provide payment services to commercial banks and the U.S. government. Before becoming president, Evans was director of research and senior vice president of the bank. Prior to that, he was a vice president and senior economist. Evans has taught at the University of Chicago, University of Michigan and University of South Carolina. His personal research, published in several journals, has focused on measuring the effects of monetary policy on U.S. economic activity, inflation and financial market prices. Evans sits on the boards of Chicago Metropolis 2020, the Metro Chicago Information Center and Rush University Medical Center. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in economics from Carnegie-Mellon University.
