Jim Millstein is the former chief restructuring officer of the U.S. Treasury Department, a position he left in March. Millstein was primarily responsible for oversight and management of the department's largest investments in the financial sector, including AIG and Ally Financial, and participated in the policy planning process that ultimately led to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Prior to joining the Treasury Department, Millstein was the co-head of Lazard Freres & Co. LLC's Restructuring Group. At Lazard, he worked on a diverse array of restructuring engagements, including representing the Republic of Argentina, WorldCom, the United Auto Workers and Charter Communications. Before joining Lazard, Millstein was the head of the corporate restructuring practice at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton. He received a J.D. from Columbia Law School; a master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley; and a bachelor's degree from Princeton University.
