Thomas Cole
Partner, Chairman of the Executive Committee, Sidley Austin LLP
Thomas Cole is Partner and Chairman of the Executive Committee at the international law firm Sidley Austin LLP in the Chicago office. He has been involved in dozens of public mergers, including many valued at more than $1 billion. Corporate governance assignments have included acting as special counsel to the boards of Prudential Insurance, Zenith Electronics and other public companies, as well as frequent assignments for audit committees and special committees. Cole taught the University of Chicago Law School seminar on corporate governance for five years and served on the faculty of the Director's College, sponsored by the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and the KPMG Audit Committee Institute. He is a former chairman of Northwestern University's Garrett Corporate and Securities Law Institute and former co-chairman of the Tulane Corporate Law Institute. He is a member of several professional organizations and sits on civic and community boards, including the board of the New York Stock Exchange. A member of the Order of the Coif, Cole earned a J.D. from the University of Chicago.
