Vivek Wadhwa
Director of Research, Center for Entrepreneurship and Research Commercialization, Duke University; Distinguished Visiting Scholar, Halle Institute of Global Learning, Emory University
Vivek Wadhwa is the director of research at Duke University's Center for Entrepreneurship and Research Commercialization as well as a distinguished visiting scholar at Emory University′s Halle Institute of Global Learning. Since joining Duke in 2005, he has researched globalization and the sources of the U.S. competitive advantage. His work revealed that over one-in-four U.S. technology startups were founded by immigrants, and that a flawed immigration system created a backlog of skilled workers that may cause a reverse brain-drain of talent to other countries and weaken U.S. competitiveness. Before joining Duke, Wadhwa was a technology executive. At CS First Boston, he spearheaded the development of technology for creating computer systems that was so successful, CSFB decided to spin off the business unit into Seer Technologies, which Wadhwa helped grow into a $118 million public company. He later started Relativity Technologies, named one of the 25 "coolest" companies in the world by Fortune. Wadhwa holds a B.A. from the University of Canberra in Australia and an M.B.A. from New York University.
