Jeff Broin is president and CEO of POET, which is based in Sioux Falls, S.D. The 27 POET plants have a combined annual production capacity of 1.7 billion gallons of ethanol and approximately 9 billion pounds of distillers grains. POET provides a vertically integrated system that includes project development, design and construction, plant management, risk management, ethanol marketing and distillers grain marketing. Along with the U.S. Department of Energy and the state of Iowa, POET is co-funding Project LIBERTY, the conversion of an existing ethanol production facility in Emmetsburg, Iowa, into a biorefinery that produces grain-based ethanol and ethanol from corn cobs, leaves, husks and stalks. Broin actively promotes renewable fuels by serving on the boards of several firms, including Growth Energy. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a degree in agricultural business.
