President, Tulane University
Scott Cowen is Tulane University's 14th president. He has more than doubled the level of private giving to Tulane while attaining record levels of research awards, academic innovation and student interest. After Hurricane Katrina, he led rebuilding efforts on campus and in New Orleans, helping to remake the city's education and health-care systems. He received the 2009 Times-Picayune Loving Cup for his service to New Orleans. Time magazine recently named him one of the nation's "10 Best College Presidents," and Newsweek has twice named Tulane one of the "Hottest Schools in America" under Cowen's leadership. In 2010, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and was recently appointed to the White House Council for Community Solutions. Cowen earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut and his master's and doctorate in business from The George Washington University.
