Jeffrey Peterson
Colonel, U.S. Army; Professor of Economics, West Point Military Academy
Jeffrey Peterson is a U.S. Army Colonel and the Academy Professor of Economics at the United States Military Academy, where he directs the economics program. A graduate of West Point, he has served in a variety of leadership positions in the United States, Korea, Cuba and the Middle East. Most recently, he commanded a cavalry squadron based at Ft. Lewis, Wash., that deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, and conducted counterinsurgency operations from July 2006 to September 2007, during the height of sectarian violence in Baghdad and the beginning of the "surge." His experiences using economics to establish stability in his sector motivated his desire to research the military′s role in economic development in a post-conflict environment and the importance of economics as one dimension of successful counterinsurgency operations. Peterson holds an M.B.A. from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a Ph.D. in policy analysis from the RAND Graduate School.
