R. Alta Charo
Warren P. Knowles Professor of Law and Bioethics, University of Wisconsin, Madison
R. Alta Charo is the Warren P. Knowles Professor of Law and Bioethics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is on the faculty of the Law School and the Medical School's Department of Medical History and Bioethics. Charo, who has served on numerous boards and commissions related to bioethics and stem cells, worked on the Obama-Biden Transition Project as a member of the Health and Human Services review team. She teaches health law, bioethics and biotechnology law, food and drug law, medical ethics, reproductive rights, torts and legislative drafting. She has been a visiting professor at law and medical schools in Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Cuba, France, Germany and New Zealand. Charo serves on the Alan Guttmacher Institute board, the Foundation for Genetic Medicine board, an advisory committee for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the program board of amFAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research.
