James Boettcher
General Partner, Focus Ventures
James Boettcher is General Partner of Focus Ventures, where he has led successful investments in Cosine Communications, Starent Networks, Telera (Alcatel) and Netscaler (Citrix). In addition, Boettcher spearheads Focus's efforts in Asia, to which he brings to bear 30 years of experience in the region. He has initiated customer and partner relationships for numerous Focus portfolio companies, including inCode Telecom, NetScaler, PixelWorks, PureDigital and Silicon Optix. Boettcher was previously a co-founder and managing director of the boutique merchant bank Amsterdam Pacific Corporation, which was purchased by a large European bank in 1994. Prior to that, he was vice president in the Telecommunications Section of the Bank of America's Investment Banking Group, where he led media and high-tech assignments in the United States, Europe and the Far East. He has lectured on corporate and project financing at Stanford, and has written numerous finance-related articles. Boettcher received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin and an M.B.A. and master's degree from Stanford University.
