Reza Aslan
Scholar; Media Analyst; Author, No god but God: The Origins, Evolution and Future of Islam
Reza Aslan is a Middle East Analyst for CBS News, a regular commentator for NPR's "Marketplace" and an internationally acclaimed writer and scholar of religions. He is a member of the Los Angeles Institute for the Humanities and a research associate at the University of Southern California's Center on Public Diplomacy; he also serves on advisory boards of both the Council of Foreign Relations and the Ploughshares Fund. Aslan has been a visiting assistant professor of Islamic and Middle East Studies at the University of Iowa and a Truman Capote Fellow in fiction at the Iowa Writers' Workshop. His first book, No god but God: The Origins, Evolution and Future of Islam (2005), was nominated for a PEN USA award. His next book, How to Win a Cosmic War: Why We're Losing the War on Terror, is scheduled to be published this fall. He received a bachelor's degree from Santa Clara University and master's degrees from Harvard University and the University of Iowa; he is a doctoral candidate at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
