Sam Zell
Chairman and President, Equity Group Investments LLC; Chairman and CEO, Tribune Company
Sam Zell is Chairman and President of Equity Group Investments LLC, an entrepreneurial investment firm based in Chicago. In 2007, Zell bought the Tribune Company (publisher of The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times and New York Newsday and owner of the Chicago Cubs); he became the company's chairman and CEO. He is also chairman of the board of various corporations, including Anixter International, Equity Residential Properties Trust and Capital Trust. He served as chairman of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts and sits on the President's Advisory Board at the University of Michigan. In 1999 he and Ann Lurie endowed the Samuel Zell & Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. He was appointed a DeRoy Visiting Professor in Honors at the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan. He endowed the Samuel Zell/Robert Lurie Real Estate Center at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. Zell received a bachelor's degree and a J.D. from the University of Michigan.
