Christopher Ailman
Chief Investment Officer, California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS)
Christopher Ailman is Chief Investment Officer for the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS). He oversees alternative investments, external equities/corporate governance and operations, fixed income, internal equities and real estate. He joined CalSTRS in 2000, with more than 20 years of institutional investment management experience. He previously managed the $60 billion Washington State Investment Board, leading the development of a new investment program featuring a hybrid defined-benefit/defined-contribution plan. He also served as chief investment officer of the Sacramento County Employees' Retirement System and the County of Sacramento. In 2000, Ailman was named Chief Investment Officer of the Year by the Institute for Fiduciary Education; in 2003, he received the Richard L. Stoddard Award for outstanding contributions to the investment of public funds. Ailman received a bachelor's degree in business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
