James Greenwood
President and CEO, Biotechnology Industry Organization
James Greenwood is President and CEO of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), which represents more than 1,100 biotech companies, academic institutions and state biotech centers in the United States and 31 other nations. BIO members are involved in the research and development of health care, agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology products. Greenwood represented Pennsylvania's Eighth District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 2005 and was a sponsor of legislation to reform the nation's medical malpractice system, which passed in the House several times. He also served as chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation, and led investigations into corporate governance at Enron, Global Crossing and WorldCom; terrorist threats to nuclear power plants, ports and infrastructure; and waste and fraud in federal agencies. Prior to his election to Congress, he served six years in the Pennsylvania General Assembly and six years in the Pennsylvania Senate. From 1977 to 1980, he was as a caseworker with abused and neglected children. Greenwood graduated from Dickinson College with a bachelor's degree in sociology.
