Former Policy Analyst, U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Politico-Military Affairs
Bennett Ramberg is a former Policy Analyst at the U.S. State Department in the Bureau of Politico-Military Affairs. His evaluation of the Chernobyl accident began in 1986, when he wrote the article "Learning From Chernobyl," for Foreign Affairs. In the mid-1990s, he directed a project for the W. Alton Jones Foundation, assessing the risks of a Chernobyl repeat; his proposed solution resulted in a foundation-sponsored energy-efficiency demonstration undertaking in the Ukraine to reduce reliance on Chernobyl-design RBMK reactors. Ramberg has published six books on nuclear issues, as well as numerous academic articles, and is best known for Nuclear Power Plants as Weapons for the Enemy: An Unrecognized Military Peril. His academic appointments include positions at Princeton, Stanford and the University of California, Los Angeles. Ramberg earned a J.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University.
