Neal Soss
Managing Director, Chief Economist, Credit Suisse
Neal Soss is a Managing Director and Chief Economist of Credit Suisse, the international corporate and investment banking firm. Prior to joining Credit Suisse in 1984, he was with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. As a vice president there, his responsibilities included bank supervision and foreign relations. During a two-year leave from the Federal Reserve Bank, he was assistant to Chairman Paul Volcker of the Federal Reserve Board. His experience in Washington also includes two years as director of the banking research and economic analysis division in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Soss has also held various positions in New York State government, including three years in the New York State Banking Department, as both deputy and first deputy superintendent of banks. As chief economist in the Office of Secretary to the Governor during the Carey administration, he acted as liaison between state economic regulation and promotion agencies and the governor. Soss earned a master's degree and Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University.
