Edward Tian

Edward Tian is Vice Chairman and CEO of China Netcom (Group) Co. Ltd., a leading fixed-line telecommunications operator in China and data communications operator in the greater Asia-Pacific region. Prior to joining China Netcom, Tian was the co-founder and CEO of AsiaInfo Holding Inc., the first Internet technology provider in China. Under his leadership, AsiaInfo successfully listed on the Nasdaq in 1998. Tian was named a "global leader for tomorrow" in 1998 by the World Economic Forum and was voted as one of "top 10 entrepreneurs of 2000" by Red Herring. He was also elected one of the "top 10 Internet figures of China" by AsiaWeek and was named one of the "stars of Asia" by BusinessWeek . He is a board member of Asia Pacific Board of New York Stock Exchange Inc. and the Harvard Business School Asia Advisory Committee, as well as a member of International Business Council of the World Economic Forum. Tian earned a Ph.D. in natural resource management at Texas Tech University.
