Stewart Paperin
Executive Vice President, Open Society Institute and Soros Foundations Network
Stewart Paperin is Executive Vice President of the Open Society Institute and the Soros Foundations Network, in charge of administration and operations. In addition, he provides leadership to the foundations' economic development and reform activities. He also assists Soros Fund Management in managing its extensive equity investments in Russia. Previously, Paperin was president of LionRock Partners Ltd., a diversified consulting and investment firm in New York. He also served as president of Brooke Group International and as CFO of Western Union Corp. during a major restructuring. In addition, he has served on the boards of Western Union, PennOctane Corp., Global TeleSystems Group Inc., Golden Telecom Inc. and OAO Svyazinvest, as well as a number of emerging Internet and telecommunication companies. He currently serves on the boards of several economic policy institutes in Central and Eastern Europe, and as a director of the National Urban Reconstruction Housing Authority of South Africa. Paperin earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the State University of New York, Binghamton, and was awarded a Ph.D. by the State University of New York.
