Sam Zell
Chairman, Equity Group Investments LLC
Sam Zell is Chairman of Equity Group Investments LLC. He began his career in real estate while a university student and soon thereafter founded his current company, an entrepreneurial investment firm based in Chicago. Zell is also chairman of the board of various corporations, including Anixter International, Manufactured Home Communities Inc., Equity Residential Properties Trust, and Capital Trust. He served as chairman of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts and sits on the President's Advisory Board at the University of Michigan and the Committee of Visitors at the University of Michigan Law School. He established the Zell/Lurie Entrepreneurial Award Program, a fund for entrepreneurial awareness and sensitivity, with the University of Michigan Business School. Zell was appointed a DeRoy Visiting Professor in Honors at the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan. He is a longtime supporter of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Real Estate Center and endowed the Samuel Zell/Robert Lurie Real Estate Center there. Zell earned his J.D. at the University of Michigan.
