Francine Kaufman

Francine Kaufman is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California and Head of the Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Her research targets diabetes prevention and treatment. She chairs the STOPP-T2 trials, funded by the National Institutes of Health, seeking ways to prevent and treat Type 2 diabetes in young people. She is an investigator in TrailNet, an NIH study into the prevention of Type 1 diabetes. Kaufman has developed clinical innovations, including a snack bar used as an appetite suppressant in diabetes treatment. She was president of the American Diabetes Association in 2002-2003 and received the Banting Medal for Service, as well as the Outstanding Contribution to Children and Youth Award. She serves on the California State Task Force on Youth Fitness and Workplace Wellness, and was a delegate to the 2002 55th Assembly of the World Health Organization. Kaufman earned an M.D. from Chicago Medical School at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.
