Barry Sternlicht
Chairman and CEO, Starwood Capital Group
Barry Sternlicht is Chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group (SCG), a private investment firm he formed in 1991. For the past 15 years, he has structured almost 300 separate investment transactions with a cost basis of more than $30 billion. Today his firm manages more than $10 billion of assets on behalf of its partners and SCG has recently formed Starwood Energy Partners, focusing on power transmission distribution. From 1995 through 2004, Sternlicht was Chairman and CEO of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, a company he founded in 1995. Starwood Hotels' brands include St. Regis, W Hotels, Sheraton and Starwood Vacation Ownership. In 2005, Sternlicht was named America's Best Lodging CEO by Institutional Investor magazine and was also inducted into the Interior Design Magazine Hall of Fame. A trustee of Brown University, Sternlicht is the chairman of the board of Groupe Taittinger and Societé du Louvre and Baccarat. He serves on the board of directors for many organizations, including Estée Lauder, the National Advisory Board of JP Morgan Chase and the Advisory Board of Eurohypo Bank. Sternlicht earned an MBA at Harvard Business School.
