Doug Suisman is Founder and Principal of Suisman Urban Design. An urban designer and licensed architect, he has gained international recognition for his ideas and designs of urban public space. His work focuses on sustainable regional development, urban revitalization, public spaces and buildings, and public transit. His clients range from planning ministries, public agencies and think tanks to developers and community groups in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Ramallah, San Antonio and San Francisco. His projects include master plans and detailed designs for regional transit systems, downtowns, civic centers, plazas, parks and streetscapes. He is currently working on a master plan for the major civic boulevard in downtown Los Angeles, and on an urban design framework for a new Palestinian state, in partnership with the Rand Corporation. He is the lead author of The Arc: A Formal Structure for a Palestinian State to be published by Rand in April 2005. Suisman's other work has also been published internationally in monographs and periodicals. In 1999, Suisman was honored by his peers and made a fellow of the American Institute of Architects. He has lectured and taught widely, including faculty appointments at Berkeley, UCLA, and USC. He earned his degrees from Yale and Columbia, where he won the AIA Medal.
