Zhengyu Tang is a partner in the Sidley and Austin Shanghai office and leads the firm′s foreign direct investment and FDI-based mergers and acquisitions practice in China. He has practiced law with leading Chinese, U.S. and U.K. firms since 1986 and for the past four years was recognized as a leading lawyer in Asia by the Asia Pacific Legal 500. Tang has assisted numerous multinationals in negotiating, establishing and operating foreign investment enterprises in the P.R.C. and regularly advises on corporate restructuring as well as regulatory matters. His practice is increasingly focused on foreign direct investments in China′s high-tech and IT industries. Tang has also successfully represented foreign clients before the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, as well as in administrative proceedings before state and local authorities, and assisted in litigation related to high-tech development, IP and trade and investment disputes. Tang has written extensively on foreign direct investment and strategic venture capital arrangements in China Law & Practice and Practical Asian Tax Strategies. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English. Tang earned his LLM at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Graduate School and J.D. at the University of Maine Law School.
