Steven Burd is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Safeway Inc., one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America. Burd orchestrated Safeway′s turnaround, one of the most dramatic business turnarounds in the entire retail sector, resulting in a 20 fold increase in share price that had added more than $28 billion to Safeway's equity capitalization by year end 1998. Burd has a master′s in economics from the University of Wisconsin.
