Speaker's Biography:
Susan Hackwood
Executive Director, California Council on Science and Technology
Susan Hackwood is Executive Director of the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST) and Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Riverside. CCST is a not-for-profit corporation that advises the state on all aspects of science and technology that impact society, including nanotechnology, stem cell research, intellectual property, climate change, energy, information technology, biotechnology, and technical workforce development and education. Hackwood has been a visiting scholar at the California Institute of Technology, Sandia National Laboratory and the Anderson School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1990 she became the founding dean of the Bourns College of Engineering at the University of California, Riverside. In 1984 she joined the University of California, Santa Barbara, as a professor of electrical and computer engineering and was founder and director of the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center for Robotic Systems in Microelectronics. Before joining academia, she was head of device robotics technology research at AT&T Bell Labs. Hackwood received a Ph.D. from De Montfort University in England.
