Speaker's Biography:
Richard Merkin
President and CEO, Heritage Provider Network
Richard Merkin, M.D., is President and CEO of Heritage Provider Network, which he founded in 1996. He develops clinically focused networks to bring quality-driven systems to the communities in which Heritage operates. His leadership has inspired the formation of more than 25 group models and IPA structures in California and New York. Merkin serves on the advisory board for the chairman of the California Assembly Subcommittee on Health. He is chair of the California Blue Ribbon Commission on Health Plan Integrity and a board member of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Task Force for Medical and Mental Health, the California Association of Physician Groups and FasterCures. He also serves on the board of trustees at the California Institute of Technology and Sierra Nevada College. He founded the Heritage Medical Research Institute, a nonprofit medical research corporation emphasizing health-care quality and outcomes studies. Merkin is chair for the Asia Society Southern California, on the board of advisors for Tennenbaum Capital and has been on the Mayor's Executive Committee for Los Angeles.
