Summary:"You haven′t seen anything yet," was Joe Raguso′s enthusiastic endorsement of the Next Generation Internet. Raguso, the State of California′s Deputy Secretary of Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency, likened current Internet technology to the ox and cart in terms of modern development. Mike Vildibill, Deputy Director of the High-End Computing Program at UC San Diego′s Supercomputer Center, asked us to imagine infinite free bandwidth. Coupled with the development of inter-enterprise software and the hardware to manage it, the forte of the remaining three panelists, all felt that the possibilities were limitless. People in multiple disciplines, they said, would be talking and working together as never before. We are creating a "network economy," stated Zack Rinat, head of Model N, Inc., that will "harness the power of the Internet as a communication vehicle between companies, people and processes." It will reduce inefficiencies, enable real time communication and align understanding.
All of the panelists envision new types of collaboration and sharing that they felt would not only make businesses successful but will create positive societal benefits, as well.
As for the economic downturn, all viewed this as an opportunity to focus on fundamentals so that they would be ready with deliverable products when better times returned.
