Speaker's Biography:
Richard Katz
Senior Editor, The Oriental Economist Report
Richard Katz is Senior Editor of The Oriental Economist Report responsible for coordinating its coverage of the Japanese economy. He is also a special correspondent for Weekly Toyo Keizai, a leading weekly business magazine published by TOE′s parent company, Toyo Keizai. A veteran journalist, Katz has been writing about Japan and US-Japan relations for 25 years. His articles have appeared in both Japanese and American national publications. In addition to reporting and writing, Katz is a visiting lecturer in economics at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook. He authored Japan: The System That Soured—The Rise and Fall of the Japanese Economic Miracle, which was translated into Japanese. He serves on the Council of Foreign Relations′ Task Force on the Japanese economy. Katz is frequently quoted in major international publications and news programs. He regularly writes a guest column in the Asahi Evening News. His op-eds appear in the New York Times, Asian Wall Street Journal, Christian Science Monitor and the Investors Business Daily. Longer essays have been published by The Washington Quarterly, The International Economy Magazine, Challenge and The American Prospect. Katz earned his M.A. in economics at New York University.
