Speaker's Biography:
George Ayittey
Professor of Economics, American University (Washington, DC)
George B.N. Ayittey is Professor of Economics at American University. He was the recipient of a National Fellowship at the Hoover Institution and one of 13 professors recognized for outstanding scholarly work. He was a Professor at Wayne State College in Nebraska and Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania before joining the Heritage Foundation as a Bradley Resident Scholar. Ayittey founded The Free Africa Foundation in Washington D.C. to serve as a catalyst for reform in Africa. He is the author of four books on Africa and his articles have been widely published in The Wall Street Journal, Globe and Mail (Canada), The Times of London, USA TODAY and many more. He is a frequent commentator on radio and television and is featured in the documentary on Africa, "Burden On the Land" (1990). Ayittey received his Ph.D. from the University of Manitoba.
