Associates Breakfast With Heyward Donigan, CEO of ValueOptions
September 20, 2011

  Health

Whether you're a recession-weary executive or a worn-out employee, depression and anxiety can have the same effect on your mental health. Helping patients overcome these issues is the goal of ValueOptions, which provides managed mental-health services, substance-abuse treatment and employee-assistance programs to the U.S. military; federal, state and local governments; health plans; and Fortune 500 companies.

At this Milken Institute breakfast, Heyward Donigan, president and CEO of ValueOptions, will discuss her company's broad experience in treating post-traumatic stress syndrome in returning troops and how mental health affects not only workplace safety but also worker productivity in terms of absenteeism and presenteeism.

Donigan will also draw on her extensive background in the industry to answer broader health-care questions such as what can be done to lower the costs and improve the quality of patient care, and the impacts of the new federal health-care law.

Donigan has led efforts in every facet of health plan operations, including sales and marketing, network management, contracting, product development and customer service. She previously served as executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Premera Blue Cross, as well as chairman of the board of Consortium Health Plans. Previously, Donigan held a number of senior management roles at CIGNA Healthcare, Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and US Healthcare. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia and holds an M.P.A. from New York University.
