Ranking fifth on the all-time wins list among managers, Joe Torre is one of the most respected names in baseball. An MVP catcher during his own playing days, he racked up four World Series rings and 12 straight playoff appearances during a phenomenally successful run at the helm of the New York Yankees. A former broadcaster for the Angels, he became known for his masterful handling of the New York press corps.
Joe Torre and his wife, Ali, field a question from a member of the audience during the Forum, where Joe talked about baseball and the couple's Safe at Home Foundation.

In 2009, Torre offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse into his tumultuous stint in pinstripes in "The Yankee Years," penned with legendary sports journalist Tom Verducci. New York Daily News columnist Mike Lupica proclaimed it "one of the best books about baseball ever written."

Today Torre proudly wears Dodger blue. He has brought a steady hand to the clubhouse, guiding the team to the NLCS for two years in a row.

For all his success on the field, Torre has revealed that he still bears the emotional scars of domestic violence witnessed during his childhood. Those painful experiences inspired him to reach out and help children end the cycle of violence by establishing the Safe At Home Foundation.

Torre's Safe At Home Foundation provides "safe rooms" in schools, staffed with master-level counselors trained in domestic violence intervention and prevention. Each year, hundreds of children visit one of the eleven safe rooms located in the New York area to receive counseling and the much-needed message that "it's not your fault" and "you're not alone." Now that Torre is at the helm of the Dodgers, the Foundation is gearing up to launch similar safe rooms in Los Angeles schools this fall.

In front of a packed house, Torre joined us for a Milken Institute Forum to discuss his storied baseball career, his leadership philosophy and the goals of his Safe At Home Foundation.
