Speaker's Biography:
George Argyros
Ambassador, American Embassy, Madrid, Spain
George Argyros is U.S. Ambassador to Spain and Andorra. Until his appointment, Argyros was chairman and CEO of Arnel & Affiliates, a prominent West Coast diversified investment company. He was also a general partner of Westar Capital, a private investment company and owner of the Seattle Mariners Baseball Club of the American League for nine seasons. Prior to his appointment, Argyros was a member of the Board of Directors for Rockwell International Corporation, First American Corporation, The Newhall Land and Farming Company, and Verteq, Inc. He served as a member of the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations for the U.S. Trade Ambassador until 1990 when President Bush appointed him to the board of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation. Argyros is chairman of the Board of Directors for The Beckman Foundation, former chairman and current treasurer of the Horatio Alger Association, and founding chairman for the Nixon Center in Washington D.C. Argyros earned his degree in business and economics at Chapman University.
