Investment Director, National Pensions Reserve Fund of Ireland
Eugene O'Callaghan is investment director of the National Pensions Reserve Fund of Ireland, where he has overall responsibility for the fund's management. Previously he was head of the investment manager program at the NPRF. Established in 2001 to supplement the existing "pay as you go" public pension system, the fund is currently valued at 15.8 billion, which includes 10.5 billion in a directed portfolio (securities issued by the two largest Irish banks, these investments having been formally directed by the minister for finance) and 5.3 billion in a discretionary portfolio. O'Callaghan joined the NPRF in 2005 from Irish Life Investment Managers, where he was an executive director and had spent 15 years in a variety of roles. Prior to that, he worked at an investment bank and in a major accounting firm in New Zealand. A chartered accountant, O'Callaghan has a B.Comm degree from University College Dublin.
