Jerry Brown, California Governor

When Jerry Brown was sworn in as California's governor this January, he was returning to an office he first held three decades ago. Having made his own remarkable comeback, can he lead the state to do the same? Few people can envy the enormity of the task he has taken on: returning California to fiscal stability while working with a legislature that's in a perpetual state of partisan gridlock. He's been trying to level directly with the voters about the tough choices we face and usher in a new era of realism and frugality. Will he succeed? How can we reconcile today's deep cuts with the need to invest for the future? Can we leverage California's tremendous advantages to return to growth? Gov. Brown will sit down with Institute chairman Mike Milken for a wide-ranging and candid conversation about how the Golden State can overcome its challenges and prove the doubters wrong.
