Executive Chairman and CEO, BlackBerry
John Chen is CEO of BlackBerry and executive chair of its board of directors. Previously he served as chairman and CEO of Sybase Inc. Before that he held a series of executive positions at Siemens AG, Pyramid Technology Corp. and Burroughs Corp. He began his career as a design engineer with Unisys Corp. In 2005, President George W. Bush appointed Chen to the President's Export Council, and in 2006 he became co-chair of the Secure Borders and Open Doors Advisory Committee. He has also chaired the U.S.-China Policy Advisory Roundtable for the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Chen has received awards from the U.S.-Asia Institute, the U.S.-China Policy Foundation and the California-Asia Business Council, as well as the U.S.-Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation. Among the boards he serves on are those of Walt Disney Co. and Wells Fargo. He holds a bachelor's in electrical engineering from Brown University and a master's in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology.
